Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi: The Golan is occupied Syrian territory in accordance with all international resolutions
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi said that the Golan is occupied Syrian land according to all resolutions of international legitimacy, stressing the need for the international community to abide by these resolutions, which affirm the inadmissibility of the acquisition of land by force.
In a statement issued by the State Department on Monday after the United States recognized Israel's sovereignty over the occupied Golan, Safadi said the Kingdom's position was firm and clear in rejecting Israel's annexation of the occupied Golan and rejecting any resolution recognizing the annexation as a unilateral decision that would increase tension in the region. Occupied by Syria, requires the achievement of a comprehensive and lasting peace to end its occupation in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. The position of the international community on the Golan was evident in Security Council resolution 497 (1981), which rejected Israel's decision to annex the occupied Golan and affirmed the illegality of Israel's imposition of its laws and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan.
